Lauren Holiday Meet & Greet

Lauren Holiday Event A Great Success

As part of the #CelebrateTheCup campaign (sponsored by SmoothieKing) AFU was able to bring US Women's World Champion Lauren Holiday exclusively to AFU.

"We wanted to give our young aspiring soccer players a real treat, having the opportunity to meet and train with an outstanding and inspiring soccer player," said Greg Hoover, president of Atlanta Fire United Soccer Club. "Our girls work hard every practice and give it all during their games, we wanted to give them the chance to meet someone who made it to the top."

Several hundred players and their families attended the October 17th event which was held at George Pierce Park in Suwanee. Of course the girls could not wait to meet their idol - they hung on to every word of Ms. Holiday's speech about her own personal soccer story. How she wasn't always picked for the top teams and that she continued to work hard and never stopped to pursue her dreams to become one of the top soccer players in the World.

Finally after her speech it was time to train - our U12 Academy to U14 ENCL girls were invited to train with Ms. Holiday first. She led juggling and passing exercises and while the girls worked what they just have been taught, she walked around talking to players and did some one-on-one training where players needed extra help on perfecting those drills.
After the younger girls' training session was finished our U15-U18 girls got their chance to practice with Ms. Holiday as well. Of course since it was the older girls' turn, she took the drills up a notch in difficulty. They even had a friendly competition on which pair finished one of the drills with the highest number. Needless to say the girls had a blast.

But Ms. Holiday wasn't done quite yet. Since two of our U14 ECNL girls celebrated their birthday she posed with birthday girls and their team in front of a huge cookie cake, and even shared a piece of cookie cake with them.

Then it was time for the autograph and picture session. A long line of girls and boys formed and each player waited patiently for their turn to meet Ms. Holiday and to get her autograph. Ms. Holiday took her time with each player, spending well over for the meet & greet part. Looking at all the happy players we think it is safe to say that this event was a huge success.
