Sean Johnson gets his second cap with the U.S. Men's National Team

Sean Johnson gets his second cap with the  U.S. Men’s National Team. U.S. held onto an early lead to win 1-0 against Panama for their second straight shutout.
From the U.S. Soccer Communications Center:
PANAMA CITY, Panama (Jan. 25, 2012) – U.S. goal keeper Sean Johnson held on to a clean sheet, allowing the U.S. Men’s National Team to overcome a second-half red card and record a 1-0 victory against Panama at Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, Panama.

Similar to last year’s draw against Chile, Johnson got the start in place of Nick Rimando to open the second half and earn his second career cap. Along with the shutout for Bill Hamid against Venezuela, all three U.S. goalkeepers in camp were part of shutout victories.

The call up is his first since new head coach Jurgen Klinsmann took over the US MNT. Johnson, just 22 years old, traveled to Europe over the summer with the U.S. U-23 team and trained with Everton of the English Premier League.

Already missing some of MLS Chicago Fire’s preseason preparations, Sean will miss more time as he prepares with the U.S. U23 team for pre-Olympic qualifying March 22- April 2 and possibly the Summer Games set for July 27-August 12.

It’s something to think about when your country calls. You’re always honored to wear your nation’s crest and to represent the U.S. With that it’s still tough to miss games with your club but its part of being a national team player. I’ll likely miss games here or there but I think representing my country is second to none. It’ll be an interesting year and a really busy one at that. Hopefully going into preseason and mixing in with the camps, it’ll be much more active then compared to the past but I’m ready for what the year has to offer.”
