Atlanta Fire United Soccer Association History

The West Gwinnett Soccer Club was founded in 1980 in Duluth by parents who wanted to create a family friendly atmosphere to encourage the local youth to learn the sport of soccer. Then we played on private property that Mr. Scott Hudgens was kind enough to allow us to use in the River Green area. The local population and the Club grew steadily until Gwinnett County built the soccer complex at George Pierce Park. These facilities and subsequent additions, the growth of our communities and the popularity of the sport have caused our ranks to swell to almost 4,000 players. We began fielding select teams in about 1988 and in the fall of 2002 we expect to have 70 select teams playing at all levels of competitive soccer.

Our growth in numbers has allowed us to institute more programs to support the sport and develop the skills of our children. We provide training for players, coaches and referees that challenge the serious player but we also support the casual player. We rely on volunteers to coach, manage, provide concessions, field marshals, register, form teams, schedule, pictures, tournaments, prepare fields and hundreds of other tasks. We are a non-profit corporation directed by elected volunteers who generally, are also parents of players. Our mission is to provide a quality soccer program which will create an atmosphere where children can have fun, develop and enhance team and individual skills, learn good sportsmanship and become responsible individuals.

We have come a long way from the days when our five year olds played 9v9 on a big field in a pasture where most players rarely touched the ball. We have developed the facilities, the coaching staff and the administrative support, and the experience to be the leading soccer club in our state. Come work with us to make it happen!
