Team Placement
How are age groups determined?
Age groups in our recreational program are determined by birth year, in accordance with Georgia Soccer and national youth soccer guidelines. This ensures that players are grouped with others of similar age and developmental stage.
Here are the age group breakdowns for the 2025-2026 seasonal year:
| Age Group |
Birth Year |
| U6 |
2020 & 2021 |
| U8 |
2018 & 2019 |
| U10 |
2017 & 2016 |
| U12 |
2015 & 2014 |
| U14 |
2013 & 2012 |
| U16 |
2011 & 2010 |
| U19 |
2009, 2008 & 2007 |
It's important to note that these age groups are based on the calendar year, and they are standardized to create a fair and consistent playing environment across all youth soccer programs.
Can I request a specific coach?
Atlanta Fire United Soccer Club does not accept requests for specific coaches, with the exception of if the player's parent is the coach. We prioritize creating balanced teams for the benefit of all players, ensuring a fair and enjoyable experience for everyone.
We will consider requests for buddies or keeping groups of players together from one season to the next, but this is NOT guaranteed and based on season to season (i.e. Spring 2025 to Fall 2025, not Fall 2024 to Fall 2025)
These requests will be subject to availability and roster balancing needs and are not guaranteed.
Can I request a buddy for my child to play with?
During registration you will have a place to list up to ONE friend you'd like your child to play with. These requests will be evaluated and honored if possible but are NOT guaranteed.
Buddy requests are only considered if the friend is in the same age group and gender.
Can I request a specific practice day?
During registration, you may indicate ONE day of the week that your player is unable to attend practice. Practice schedules are determined by volunteer coaches. We cannot guarantee specific practice days or times.
We do our best to align these requests based on availability, and as noted above, only one 'black-out' date can be requested, but is not guaranteed.
Can my child play up an age group?
Players are generally expected to play in their designated age group. During registration, players will have the opportunity to indicate if they are requesting to play up an age group. Requests will be evaluated by the Recreational Director.
Play-up requests are not guaranteed and subject to availability, roster balancing needs, and ensuring developmentally appropriate placement of players.
