Playing Style
Atlanta Fire emphasizes a possession-based style of play focused on:
- Quick passing and high-tempo play
- Positional rotation and triangulation
- Breaking lines while maintaining possession
- Aggressive pressing and counter-pressing
- Compact team shape in attack and defense
- Strong coverage, balance, and passing-lane management
These principles guide both individual player development and team performance.
Methodology
Our development model combines individual skill development with team concepts and structure. Coaches focus on improving player behaviors and decision-making while teaching the principles of possession-based soccer.

Curriculum & Development
Atlanta Fire’s curriculum serves as the foundation of the club’s development pathway. Training is organized into 6-week cycles with age-appropriate objectives and activities. Coaches receive weekly session guidance to ensure consistency and alignment throughout the program.
Coaching Staff
The SCCL program is led by experienced, licensed coaches who are committed to delivering high-quality training and fostering player development at every stage.
Training Frequency
SCCL teams train three times per week. U11 teams receive one weekly futsal session, while U12 teams participate in one weekly TOCA session. This structure supports both individual player development and team growth.
Futsal & TOCA Training
- U11 Futsal: Weekly futsal training focuses on improving technical skills, decision-making, and tactical awareness. Optional futsal programs are available during winter and summer for continued development.
- U12 TOCA: Weekly TOCA training at TOCA Johns Creek enhances technical and tactical abilities in a specialized training environment.
Games
Teams compete in both home and away matches. U15–U19 teams play from August through December/January, while U11–U14 teams compete in both fall and spring seasons. Most games are held on weekends. The program emphasizes player development while maintaining a competitive environment.
Tournaments
- U11–U14 teams participate in two tournaments each fall and spring.
- U15–U19 teams participate in two fall tournaments.
Tournaments are selected by club leadership to provide appropriate competition and may be held throughout the Southeast, including the Atlanta area. Select teams may attend showcase events to increase college recruiting exposure.
Evaluation & Team Placement
Players are evaluated through tryouts, training sessions, and match performance. Coaches use these assessments to determine team placements and provide ongoing feedback throughout the season.
