Atlanta Fire United Program Overview

The Atlanta Fire National League program is built on a player-centered philosophy that prioritizes technical, tactical, physical, and overall player development. The program provides a high-level competitive environment designed to support long-term growth and progression within the national soccer landscape.


Age Groups

  • Boys: U13–U19
  • Girls: U13–U19


Objective
Through its partnership with the USYS National League, Atlanta Fire United offers an additional competitive platform that supports player development while providing opportunities for local and national showcases, playoffs, and higher-level competition.


Playing Style
Atlanta Fire emphasizes a possession-based style of play focused on:

  • Quick passing and high-tempo play
  • Positional rotation and triangulation
  • Breaking lines while maintaining possession
  • Aggressive pressing to regain the ball
  • Counter-pressing immediately after loss of possession
  • Maintaining a compact team shape in attack and defense

These principles guide both individual player development and team performance.


Methodology
Our development model combines individual skill development with team concepts and structure. Coaches focus on improving player behaviors, decision-making, and technical abilities while teaching the principles of possession-based soccer.


Curriculum & Development
Atlanta Fire’s curriculum serves as the foundation of the club’s development pathway. Training is organized into 6-week cycles with age-appropriate objectives and activities. Coaches receive weekly session guidance to ensure consistency and alignment across all teams and age groups.

Coaching Staff
Atlanta Fire United is committed to providing high-quality coaching across all programs. Teams are led by licensed professional coaches who follow a club-wide methodology and curriculum supported by the club’s directors and technical staff.


Training Frequency & Player Development
Teams train three times per week, providing a consistent environment for player growth and development. AFU’s player pathway allows athletes to train and compete with older or higher-level teams when appropriate, supporting long-term development and progression.


Games & Travel
National League teams compete in geographically based divisions throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Teams have the opportunity to qualify for the National League Cup and postseason competition, while also participating in one National Showcase event each season.


Tournaments
Each team participates in a local preseason tournament and a postseason tournament in addition to National League showcase opportunities and potential National League Cup competition.

  • Girls: National League Tier 1
  • Boys: National League Piedmont Division

These platforms provide a high level of regional and national competition.


Evaluation & Team Placement
Players are evaluated through tryouts, training sessions, and match performance. These assessments help coaches make informed team placement decisions and support each player's development.


Ongoing Evaluation
Player development is continuously monitored throughout the season. Coaches provide regular feedback through in-person discussions and/or written evaluations to support ongoing growth.


College Recruiting Support
Atlanta Fire United provides comprehensive college recruiting guidance through dedicated boys’ and girls’ recruiting directors. Players and families receive education, resources, and personalized support throughout the recruiting process.
